Spark Your Kid's Genius with Barefoot Learning Club's Summer Camp

Our expert tutors are dedicated to helping students excel in academics through customized learning plans tailored to each student’s unique strengths and challenges. Build confidence, improve grades, and achieve long-term success with guidance you can trust.

Who It’s For

  • Children ages 8–11 (Tigers Group) and 12+ (Teens Group) who are behind, frustrated, or stuck—and ready to get back on track.

  • Parents who are done hoping the school system will get better and are ready to take action.

  • Students who want or need to improve their skills and be ready to tackle future learning.

Students will:

  • Learn the missing phonetic codes that are the keys to reading,

  • Incorporate into writing and spelling (yes, they all go together),

  • Create and tell stories, building fluency and writing confidence,

  • Explore art, music, mindfulness, and creative thinking as part of their daily rhythm,

  • For parents: Students get a first day baseline and a last day evaluation to show their growth in real terms.

  • Each day builds on the last—layering skills, deepening understanding, and building unstoppable confidence.

Why This Matters

Children are being passed through grades like an assembly line, without ever mastering the basics—and we call that “education.”

The system is not just broken. It was designed to set you and your children up to fail.

Nearly half of American adults are functionally illiterate. That is a shocking statistic.

Three out of five prison inmates can’t read. (That’s 60% of the prison population.)

Enough is enough!

At BLC, we cut through the noise and return to what works. And what works is simple, easy, and fun, NOT an endless, frustrating struggle.

Every day a child stays stuck is a day they fall further behind. The right intervention now changes everything.

That’s what the BLC Fill in the Gaps Summer Camp is about. We give kids back the tools they will never get in school.

What kind of results?

  • Reading levels rise,

  • Comprehension improves,

  • Spelling naturally improves (and we do it the easy way),

  • Confidence rises,

  • Kids begin to love the challenges of learning again rather than feel defeated,

  • And we have a lot of fun in the process.

MEET THE FOUNDER & CEO

Hey, I'm Kristy!

Kristy Boyd Johnson isn’t your average teacher – she’s a 30-year education powerhouse who’s done it all. From rocking classrooms to tutoring kids with learning differences, championing their rights, and even homeschooling like a boss, Kristy’s been there, done that, and got the “Let’s break the system” badge.

She’s seen the good, the bad, and the anger-inducing frustration in the school system, but instead of throwing in the towel, she’s been cooking up a revolution. Enter Barefoot Learning Club, Kristy’s brainchild and the ultimate game-changer for education. It’s not about cramming facts; it’s about teaching kids how to learn, flipping the script for students, parents, and teachers alike.

So if you want education with a side of sass and serious heart, Kristy’s your go-to. She’s not just teaching – she’s rewriting the rules.

Frequently Asked Question

What if my child doesn’t qualify for camp? Are there other options?

Yes! We have a video series that you can do at your own pace. Lifetime access.

Do I have to buy a lot of special materials?

No. Kids need one composition notebook, a pencil, a red pencil, notebook paper for practice exercises, and an eraser. Available at any Walmart, Target, on Amazon, or any store that sells school supplies. They also need a Zoom account to login to our classroom, (but just get the free one so they can login to class).

What if my child has dyslexia?

No problem. This program utilizes a multi-sensory approach that is optimal for kids with dyslexia or ADD.

Where is this camp happening?

Online via Zoom. No need to figure out transportation. And you don’t have to be local to where Kristy is to join the camp.

Why is this only for older kids?

Older kids already have some skill and knowledge. This camp’s purpose is to fill in the gaps that these kids were denied so their reading and writing skills improve. Younger children have different needs, such as learning to hold a pencil properly, so mixing them in with older kids will slow down the camp too much. We have courses available for the Littles as well.

How much can I expect my child to improve?

This is tough because, as with all learning, it depends on how much the student puts into it. However, every student who has previously done this camp has increased their reading level by a minimum of one full year, up to three full years. All students fall somewhere in that range.

Success Stories That Inspire

Our personalized approach has made a real difference in the lives of students. Here’s what they have to say about their journey with us.

My parents pulled me out of school when I was eight because I was sick. Kristy homeschooled me all the way through high school. Now I just completed my master’s degree and I still use the strategies she taught me. She is the best there is.

~Conrad W., San Diego

Kristy has a gift for immediately engaging kids and making them feel like they can do whatever is being asked of them. My daughter is blind, but Kristy just knew how to reach her.

~Kelly D., San Diego

My 16-year-old daughter was, I thought, doing okay. Then I found out she was struggling to read but was afraid to tell me. We did Kristy’s summer intensive workshop, and she jumped up three full grade levels. Everything just clicked.
